WHAT IS YOUR RESPONSE TO COVID-19?
Currently offering:
WHEN ARE LESSONS AVAILABLE?
Please contact me at madetoplaypiano@gmail.com for availability.
HOW MUCH DO YOU CHARGE?
$25 an hour. Lessons can be 30, 45, or 60 minutes. Payment for the month is due on the first lesson of said month, calculated by how many weeks you plan to attend. There is a $10 addition per week for lessons held at the student's home as a partial gas/time reimbursement.
If a lesson is missed and you let me know in advance, we can roll the amount they already paid onto the next month. Example: Susie has 30-minute lessons, so they cost $12.50 each. She plans on attending 4 lessons this month. She would typically pay $50, but we canceled one lesson last month in advance without rescheduling, so we take off $12.50 for a total of $37.50 for the month.
There are no extra fees for participation in recitals. A binder or online folder is provided for each student. The student is responsible for purchasing method books (if applicable) and sheet music.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT AT OUR FIRST MEETING?
The first meeting does two things:
1. It lets you decide if you like me as a teacher, risk-free (literally, it costs nothing).
2. It lets me see where you are as a student in various areas of piano and gives us an opportunity to discuss what you want to learn so I can prepare for our first real lesson together.
WHAT METHOD BOOK DO YOU USE?
A few. I like Alfred's because of its thoroughness in teaching chords and intervallic reading; Noona because of its guided staff presentation and perfect timing teaching intervals, etc. for those have never read music before; and Faber because of its focus on overall musicianship. For more advancing students, Czerny is a great base for recognizing musical patterns. We'll pick one. Repertoire, apart from method book pieces, can take up most of the lesson time, though that depends on the student. Supplemental material is also used for theory, technique, and sight reading.
AM I TOO OLD FOR PIANO LESSONS?
Nope! Older adults can reap so many benefits from piano, as music stimulates your brain like nothing else.
WHAT ARE THE YOUNGEST STUDENTS YOU TAKE?
Age 4.
WHAT LEVELS DO YOU TEACH?
All levels are welcome. Note that a beginner's lesson will look very different from an advanced student's.
HOW LONG SHOULD MY LESSONS BE?
30 minutes for beginner; 45-60 minute for intermediate; advanced coaching length determined with the advanced (near music major level) student according to needs.
THE FIRST LESSON DIDN'T GIVE ME THAT MUCH TO PRACTICE.
Nope, it didn't. Don't stress; you'll have plenty by the fourth. I just like to make sure you've got a solid start with the various materials we'll be working with at first.
I STILL HAVE QUESTIONS!
Great! Please contact me at madetoplaypiano@gmail.com. I'm happy to answer.
